AL J. DANIEL, Jr. - principal of the firm -- helps people and companies resolve legal disputes in their business and personal lives through negotiation, litigation in federal and state trial courts and in appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.

He helps protect your valuable copyrights, trademarks, and other entertainment, business, and commercial matters, including art, music, publishing, theater, film, television, and photography.  

He  represents clients in trial and appellate courts and in arbitration, and submits amicus briefs in appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.  He helps clients avoid disputes by carefully reviewing potential contracts and other documents to avoid problems before they happen.

Prior to moving to New York City, Al was an appellate attorney with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where he served on the Appellate Staff of the Civil Division.

At the Department of Justice, he represented various government departments and agencies in a broad range of legal issues.  Al drafted briefs and presented oral arguments in more than 40 cases in all thirteen federal courts of appeals.  He also made appeal and certiorari recommendations and drafted briefs and petitions for the Solicitor General's Office for cases before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Prior to entering private practice in New York City, Al also served in the International Trade Field Office of the Justice Department in New York.  He tried customs and trade cases in the United States Court of International Trade and briefed and argued appeals in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

In private practice, Al has represented individuals and companies, including theatrical producers, playwrights, authors, artists, art dealers, publishers, composers, musical performing artists, independent film producers, and literary and photo agencies in copyright, trademark, and contract disputes, as well as real estate disputes.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE:

  • Appellate Staff, Civil Division, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. (briefed & argued federal appeals in all circuit courts; drafted petitions for certiorari and briefs for Solicitor General in U.S. Supreme Court cases)
